Too Small

It takes us a while to grow out of clothes out here..which is good because I get attached to some of his outfits and want him to be able to wear them for a long time.  This cute suit is a hand-me-down from his cousins.  I finally had to let it go to the if we ever have a little brother bin. ;)

Covenant

I grew up watching baby dedications from the wooden pew, not really thinking too much about them.  I would laugh when the baby up there did something cute or feel sorry for the poor parents who could not get their kid to stop screaming for the 5 minutes they were in front of everyone.  To me it seemed more like a birth announcement to the whole church.  When it came time for us to "dedicate" our boy baby in front of our church family it felt weighty.  We were entering into a covenant-with God, each other, our boy and our church.

Here he is!  This was outfit # 2 for the morning...
They called us up at the end of the service.  We stood there with another couple and their boy as we were charged to raise our sons to worship their Creator.  We committed to this.  Our church family committed to help us in this.  Oh, how we will need their help as we so often forget what Jesus did and how that changes who we are and how we should live.  We are a people who have been redeemed and restored to our God.  We are made to live as children of God, fellow heirs with His Son.

A happy boy and his blessed parents
We don't have any photos of the actual event but one memory that will stick out forever is how he just stared at all the faces that were before him.  Then, during the prayer our boy was captivated by the man praying.  I hope he will grow to be captivated by his Savior

These were the words that were read.  We pray this will be on our hearts and in our home.
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise."                                                                 Deuteronomy 6:5-7

5 months

Five months ago, after a really long night, God gave us him:

Who can believe it has been FIVE months?!?

-We laugh all the time over here!  I have decided that it is my day's work to make him laugh as much as possible because it is so much fun to hear him laugh.
-He is rolling over both ways...mostly from tummy to back while he is playing, which is followed by laughing and more playing and from back to tummy when he is protesting his naps, which is followed by screaming and a red-faced baby.
-Not quite sitting on his own...definitely needs some support.
-I don't know what he weighs...he's probably still below average...
-He likes to read with us...doesn't matter what we are reading he stares at the words on the page like he knows what's going on.
-He really plays with toys now...they do often still end up in his mouth.
-He likes when we do baby/mommy yoga, his favorite is to be "dropped" with a whosh sound.   (We don't do any of the weird meditation stuff...we just stretch and play, so I guess we should call it stretching. :)
-He smiles and talks and is so much fun!

We Love Skype!

We schedule in some skype time to our daily routine and chat with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.  We've even chatted with Great Grandpa, a great aunt in NC and friends in France and Turkey.  We are thankful for a free way to see the faces we love.  PawPaw takes pics of us and sends them to us. :)

Gotta hold on to this kid trying to get to his PawPaw!

The looking off in the distance pose...

I'm so happy about laundry day!!

Bubbles

Our baby has some talent! ;)

Sometimes...

This still happens (ok, maybe we let it happen) and we enjoy every minute of it.  It never lasts long.  Thankfully, he likes to sleep in his bed.

Nicknames

We named our boy a name that doesn't have any natural nicknames, but I sure have given him a few...all are pretty generic.

Munchkin

Anything-Head...poop-head, munchkin-head, smiley-head, etc.

Precious is a regular one.  I tend to say preCHious, preCHious-head, face, etc.  (I'll eventually need to start speaking correctly so that he learns to speak correctly...babytalk is more fun. :))

Boy Baby is probably the most used...I started calling him this after we found out he was a boy and it has just stuck.  Real creative, I know.

Startle

Bless his heart!  He has become so jumpy!  The other day I heard him playing in his bed so I went to get him up from his nap.  As soon as he saw me he jumped and then his little lip pooched out and his eyes said, "Mama why did you scare me?!"  There have also been times when he's been playing and I've been right beside him and I sneeze, cough, laugh, etc and he gets startled.  Cue eyes and lips.  He just needs a little snuggle and he's back in business.

Lil Tracker

The Boy is becoming quite observant.  He usually always knows where I am.  When I walk in one direction...his eyes and then his head and then his whole body follow me in that direction.  Sometimes just to play, I'll walk to the other side and just watch his eyes, head, then his body shift that way.  Precious.  I also love how his face lights up and his whole body starts moving with excitement when I come into his line of vision after I've been in the other room or just out of his sight.  Love him!

The stats

We had our 4 month appointment today.  It was also the first trip to the doc just the Boy Babe and his Mommy...no Daddy and no PawPaw this time.  It was an interesting morning to say the least.  Next time we hope to have someone that can be our glue and hold us together a little better.  Haha!  Here is what we found out...

Weight= 13.5pounds (10th percentile)
Length= 27 inches (90th percentile)
Translation= he's tall and skinny...poor guy, comes by it honestly I guess.  His Daddy was asked by his jr. high coach if his knuckles hit the ground when he walked.  His Mommy still has trouble finding pants that fit.  What is it that they say about the apple?!  If I let it, the worrier in me will take over and become very concerned about his weight gain.  The dr. said she wasn't concerned...yet.  He's healthy and developing great in every other area.  We are thankful and blessed!

Here is our boy showing off his new blanket from Aunt Pat and Cousins Kara and Kelsey                                                     ...I love his Daddy so he will know that he has 2 teams ;)

However, he might say Woo Pig Sooie before he spells out SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA...it's just more fun
